Bio— Awo Okaikor Aryee, is the second daughter of a Ghanaian immigrant father and Black/African American mother from Newark, New Jersey by way of her grandmother’s migration from Okolona, Mississippi. Okaikor is a former classroom teacher, teacher-leader, non-profit leader, and educational justice organizer, who is committed to collectively undoing and unlearning the oppressive structures that hinder us all from being able to access our full humanity. Her organizing orientation is rooted in an intersectional, anti-racist, de/colonial, Pan-African feminist lens and framework. Okaikor also helped co-create MapSO Freedom School and has served as one of the original steering committee members for the National Black Lives Matter at School since its establishment in 2017. Okaikor is a mother of two children and continues to organize and support educators outside their institutions.
