About STEAM Urban

STEAM URBAN stands at the forefront of educational transformation, dedicated to reshaping the learning landscape for urban students in Black and Brown communities. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we integrate the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (S.T.E.A.M.) with Expressive Arts, creating a unique and impactful educational experience. Our mission is rooted in the belief that education is not just a pathway to knowledge but a foundational pillar of social justice and community empowerment.

What we do

STEAM URBAN programming is affordable, consistent, accessible, available year-round, and led by dedicated Radical Educators. Our programming educates students on the endless possibilities they have for their futures, gives them a voice and platform to be valued and protected, and provides a creative and innovative approach to virtual and in-person learning.

Our Framework

S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) is an educational framework that integrates art and design into learning, increases the happiness and well-being of students, adds to students problem-solving skills, creativity and innovation, and is customizable for ALL students! Social/Emotional healing modalities are important because they use the arts as a basis for discovery and change. We approach Education from a Community-based learning model to reframe how learning looks on a holistic lense.

Our Values

Education Is Social Justice

Education Is A Civil Rights Issue

Educational Justice = Equity, Quality, Access

Programming For All Ages

Our programming for all ages creates an opportunity for meaningful common dialogue among different age groups & generations. #LetsTalk!

Radical Educators

All our workshops are developed, produced, and facilitated by STEAM URBAN Radical Educators.

  • “A Radical Educator is someone who leads with love and grasps things at the root, to develop and grow an anti-racist mindset and agenda, and uses that to shape their wisdom sharing (teaching / mentoring / caretaking / parenting) practices and organizing.“
  • Representation Matters because we only can learn what we are taught/shown, to see others who look like us achieve things gives us the motivation and surety to try those new things.
