Deja L. Jones is the co-founder of Honeypot Montessori, a nature-based Montessori school serving children in their primary years (3-6 years old). Honeypot Montessori will be the first nature-based preschool/kindergarten program located within the Greater Newark area. Deja is a lifelong resident of NJ and has lived and worked her 8-year education career as a Newark, NJ teacher. She holds a Primary (2.5-6 years) teaching diploma from the Association of Montessori Internationale (AMI). Deja is also a Ph.D. candidate whose research focus centers on Black children’s cultural needs in environmental education and studies as a liberatory practice. Deja, along with the vision for Honeypot recognizes that early childhood is a crucial developmental period in a child's life and nature can be both a culturally affirming and liberating tool towards self-construction and community sustainability. Honeypot is set to open in Fall 2022.
